The Moshannon Valley YMCA Summer Youth Theatre (SYT) began in 2004 as a program offering within the Arts & Culture Center of the YMCA. SYT offers young people of the Moshannon Valley area the opportunity to experience and perform quality theatrical works on stage.

Summer 2004 saw 14 young actors and actresses perform the Broadway Jr. show, HONK, Jr. These young people along with 4 adult leaders performed 3 shows at the Philipsburg-Osceola Junior High School Auditorium to a total of approximately 250 people.

Summer 2005 saw an almost 200% increase in participation as over 40 young people were involved in the production of Disney's Aladdin Jr. These 3 performances were held at the P-O High School Auditorium to an audience of over 500.

Summer 2006 saw SYT take a jump forward in a big way. Having successfully performed two Jr. shows, SYT decided to undertake a full-length musical. The Sound of Music is widely regarded as the greatest movie-musical of all time. SYT brought this popular musical to life on the historic Rowland Theatre stage in Philipsburg to an audience of over 850.

The Music Man took to the stage in 2007, as SYT performed to well over 1,000 people in the Moshannon Valley. Our cast exceeded 55 members and over 100 volunteers dedicated hours of time to help make the production a success. This show continued to solidify SYT as a growing program that is reaching the youth of our community.

Summer 2008 promises to continue the strong SYT tradition of quality theatre experiences for ALL, as the group presents The Wizard of Oz. This long-beloved story was made hugely famous by the Judy Garland movie of the same name. SYT hopes to bring the story to life this summer, as we set "Off To See The Wizard!"
